Who We Are

In 2021, Zenia Bekele founded ZB & Company (ZBC), a Washington, DC-area accounting and consulting firm. 

Zenia's experience includes over 20 years of government accounting and auditing services across a broad range of finance areas, including compliance, business process, audit, and financial reporting. Prior to founding ZBC, Zenia served as a Controller for one of the component units of the District of Columbia government.

 In her role as a controller, Zenia led all aspects of accounting operations, including maintenance and enforcement of accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board, ensuring the integrity of the Company's financial data and reporting. She also ensured appropriate accounting practices and strong internal controls over financial reporting and provided critical accountability for operational finance leadership across the Company.

Zenia began her career as an auditor, specializing in financial and compliance audits of not-for-profit, colleges and universities, health care entities, state and local governments, employee benefit plans, and the private sector for over eight years. Before leaving the public practice as an audit manager, she served as the firm's engagement quality assurance reviewer.

Zenia saw a tremendous opportunity to leverage her first-hand knowledge of government business process experience and created a firm tailored to provide solutions to the government's unique operational challenges. As an industry specialist, she understands that tight budgets require state, local, and special-purpose governments to find innovative ways to reduce costs while maintaining the service levels constituents expect. She possesses the technical expertise and cross-industry experience necessary to get the job done and help government agencies do more with less.
